32-second sample

The same passage, five ways. The one that works is usually obvious within about ten seconds — and it's rarely the one you'd have picked from a description.

Those flat lines are real. Every episode is compressed to almost no dynamic range,
so there is no moment loud enough to pull you back.

Episode 01 · Norse

Yggdrasil and the Nine Realms

A tour of the world tree and everything hanging in it. Three roots, three wells, nine worlds, and a squirrel whose entire job is carrying insults between an eagle and a serpent who will never meet.

Descriptive rather than dramatic, on purpose. Nothing in it builds to anything.

Why the voice is the whole thing

Sleep audio is intensely personal. The soft, close-mic breathiness that puts one person under is exactly what keeps another person awake and irritated — sharp S sounds and audible breath are among the most common triggers for people who can't stand them.

So one narrator can only ever serve part of the room. Pick your own and the problem disappears. One of the five below is mixed with no audible breath at all, for people who need that.

Where the stories come from

Myth, folklore, and the old invented worlds that modern fantasy was quietly built on top of. The Eddas. The Kalevala, which is where Tolkien found his elvish. Arthurian romance. Gilgamesh. The gods that Lovecraft borrowed before anyone borrowed his.

Researched properly, written to be heard rather than read, and never dressed up with tension that would keep you awake.

What's coming

Odin's nine nights on the tree. The building of Asgard's wall. The death of Baldr. Ragnarök, eventually — placed late, once you're already asleep by the time it arrives.
